The First Circuit Breaker – The "Root Cause Sieve"
You can't fix what you haven't externalized.
This is a Pen-and-Paper exercise.
Do not do this on your phone.
Do not do this on your laptop.
The physical connection between your hand and the page is what disrupts the neurological loop.
Exercise 1: The Root Cause Sieve
Time: 15 Minutes
Objective: To move from a "vague feeling of stress" to a "quantifiable list of triggers."
1. The Brain Dump (5 Minutes):
Write down every single thing currently weighing on your mind.
Don't filter them.
From "the global economy" to "the broken dishwasher."
Get it all out of your head and onto the paper.
2. The TDS Filter (5 Minutes):
Next to each item, label it with a T, D, or S:
T (Thoughts): Is this a comparison? An unnecessary expectation
D (Decisions): Is this an unresolved choice? An unrealistic goal?
S (Solutions): Is this a "Band-Aid" fix that has come back to haunt you?
3. The Physiological Check (5 Minutes):
Circle the one item that makes your heart rate spike the most as you look at it.
This is your Primary Addiction Trigger for today.
Below it, write one sentence describing the physical sensation it causes (e.g., "Tightness in chest," "Heat in neck").
Why this works:
By the time you finish this 15-minute exercise, the crisis has moved from an invisible ghost in your machine to an ink-and-paper reality
You have forced your brain to categorize, analyze, and externalize
The TDS loop thrives on vagueness and "impending doom"
The Root Cause Sieve kills it with specificity.
The Challenge:
Pick one "fire" you are currently fighting.
Run it through the Sieve.
Did the physical sensation change once you identified its root cause?
