Steps 1, 2 & 3: Trigger & Physical Activation
THE SUPRA WORKSHEET No. 1
RAT Analysis
"Is the Threat Real... or Apparent?"
Time Required: 10–15 Minutes
Purpose
Whenever we experience fear, anger, anxiety, or emotional pressure, our stress system has already been activated.
The purpose of this worksheet is not to eliminate stress.
It is to help you discover whether your stress is responding to:
- a Real Threat, or
- an Apparent Threat.
When we mistake an apparent threat for a real one, we often continue carrying unnecessary stress long after the situation has passed.
This worksheet helps you pause, examine the situation objectively, and decide on an appropriate course of action.
STEP 1
What Triggered My Stress?
Describe the situation in one or two sentences.
Do not explain.
Simply describe what happened.

□ Anger
□ Anxiety
□ Embarrassment

STEP 3

STEP 4

A Real Threat
The danger exists now.
Evidence is available.
Action is required.

The danger is imagined, exaggerated, predicted, or assumed.

□ Other

Write the next practical step.
STEP 9
If the Threat Is Apparent

Write your answer.
STEP 10
Reflection
Complete these sentences.
Today I discovered that
The greatest source of my stress was
□ The situation
□ My interpretation
□ My assumptions
□ My delay in taking action
□ Other
The next time I experience sudden stress, I will first ask:
"Where is the rat?"
The RAT Principle
Stress is not asking you to panic.
Stress is asking you to investigate.
If the threat is real, act.
If the threat is apparent, think.
In either case,
do not allow the "rat" to remain in your room.
Daily Reminder
Whenever stress suddenly appears, pause and ask:
"What exactly is the rat?"
Then ask:
"Is it real... or is my mind making it larger than it really is?"
